I have postponed a lot of my urges to actually do what I like, because of this mentality that people might say something. Well, i think I want to hear it .
Dragon Ball was one of the main influences that shaped who i've become today. It all started there, (just to name a few) with DragonBall, Spider-Man, Nox - the videogame that nobody remembers - (maybe some Frank Frazetta too ? can't recall) and much more.
But the point is that I am a product of many -many- different things that I devoured as I grew up, that are very different from eachother . As I said: Spider-Man comics,Dragon Ball animation, Conan -our beloved barbarian-, and ... Disney magazines ?! (yes), then all of the Super Nintendo games that I played when everybody had a PS2, but the games from '95 were still a novelty for me.
So all of these had an influence on me, but I shied away from letting it all show in my work. Somehow, the opinion of people who see what I do was more important to me than what I actually like to do. So, unless I do the most original thing on the planet, or unless it looks 'perfect', it's not worth it - and this became my struggle for a very long time. Therefore, no fanart - "how can you draw somebody else's thing ?! that's preposterous !!..." - and no confidence in the things you want to put out into the world. "What for ? you know ?"
The truth is that sometimes I just want to draw Goku... (baah)
With all that nice introduction, I am working on some Dragon Ball pieces. These are all works in progress for now, because it's more challenging that I thought it would be, going into them. As nothing has to be perfect to see the light of day, i thought I'd share the pieces as they are now, but I might work on them a little bit more.
Piccolo_WIP
For Piccolo, I got inspired by Gerald Parel's dragon ball pieces, and watching his youtube videos i tried his process, which I found to be very efficient for me, up to a point . Then I had to figure it out on my own.. But it's great.
Vegeta and Nappa _ WIP
This one was a struggle.. I had the initial sketch ( which can be seen as the first image from the three continuous images shown above), and then after I started painting it I was just very unhappy with the results and I had to ditch it, so I started it all over again. I way happier with the result on the last image.
These two will never go anywhere - Goku Black and Tien
